A recently elevated county girls school is a day and boarding learning institution located adjacent to Bukura agricultural college found in Lurambi sub-county which is celebrating after sending 32 candidates to join universities. This is the highest number ever experienced, the 2023 KCSE number was 22.
Four girls had B plain,9 B- and 19 C+ and the school is proud and thank God for the valuable grades produced. With the core values of integrity, innovation, professionalism, commitment, discipline, excellence and morality remains the clarion call for improvement in academics.
The set target is 6.0 for this year’s candidates who are 232 in number , having been registered with KNEC and the school has put in place stringent measures to embark on thorough revision since they completed syllabus early enough to enable candidates have adequate time for revising and consulting on topical issues.
Principal Rachel Okaro joined the premier institution in 2019 and has since improved the TSC number of teachers from 9 to 22, and 10 on BOM terms. The student population has increased from 510 to 690 minus form ones, currently registered as 5 streams from 2 in 2019.
Infrastructure has also improved especially the Dining hall, modern ablution block, borehole sunk that has clean water and treated which serve students efficiently. All classes and dormitories have been renovated with CCTV cameras placed at all the strategic places in the compound and administration block to ward off laziness and improve spirited reactions for class time and revision.
The school is surrounded with a perimeter wall that offers protection to the girl child which promotes the sense of actualisation and improved performance.
Despite the school being partially a day school, indiscipline is prohibited and the principal ensures that no loitering on roads after school time through the help of a supportive community.
Team work is another driving force especially among teachers and the subordinate staff. ” We take our students out to visit universities across the country and do joint exams with schools like Sivilie ,Butere Boys,st Mary’s girls Mumias, and Bungoma High,” revealed the principal.
They also sit for joint Mocks with Catholic sponsored schools and emphasize on mentorship programmes for students and teachers which coincide with the academic days. ” The girls are the sub-county champions in soccer team nicknamed, the maroon commandos who are very strong and a future threat to many teams together with netball by the name the (titans)which combines the school as an all round,” implode madam Okaro.
The locals are enjoying the gradual performance being realised and embracing many students joining universities. They form a formidable team towards the growth and development of the school. The Lurambi MP Hon Titus Khamala supports the school very much through the NG-CDF kitty together with the area MCA who lobby for funds through the county bursary.
The principal is promising for more quality results and they have laid down plans to improve in the poorly done subjects.
