A.C.K st. Peters Khabakaya secondary school is on a purpose to improve livelihoods through a collaborative effort in making education a priority for the community.

Principal Okola Mukhwana joined the school in 2023 and he helped the school to attain a good mean score that produced 1 candidate to join university. In 2024 results, the school is proud to have send 3 candidates in pursuing undergraduate degree courses,a gradual improvement showing there is light at the end of the tunnel.

Mr Mukhwana together with a supportive BOM led by the chair . Bonface Makhandia, have constantly showered their gratitude by ensuring students get quality learning and go beyond their limits by buying the school foodstuffs especially when capitation has stalled so that learners don’t miss out.

The mixed day school has 201 student population taught by 12 TSC teachers and 3 under BOM contract. They have registered 61 candidates for this year’s KCSE who are promising to surpass the 4.3 set target. Extra-learning commences at 6:45 in the morning and evening classes start at 4:45-7:00 P.M . Weekend learning lessons are conducted freely to intensify practicals in sciences.

The principal embarked on streamlining discipline and so far the school is ranked among the most disciplined in the Mumias East sub-county. Students move by running and always quiet in classes.

The school is located in the outskirts of Shianda market a better place for learning far away from busy highway. They have a sizeable infrastructure that accommodates all the learners and are ready to admit even a huge number because there is room for expansion and growth.

All the classes and administration block have been renovated by painting and tiling them which makes the school beautiful, clean and habitable for learning.

Area MP. Hon P. K. Salasya through the NG-CDF has constructed a twin laboratory completed only awaiting furnishing which is imminent. Salasya ensures that bursaries have been given to almost all students so that knowledge is impacted in the society for future growth.

Friends of Timothy (F.O.T) a charity organization based in the United States of America bought a 75 thousand litres of water storage tank that has necessitated piping of water in school making learning easier. They also constructed latrines for teachers and students.

The principal thanked the sponsor, area MP, and F.O.T for the gesture and support they accord them, and encouraged others who wish to offer support to do so for a harmonious existence.

The principal requested TSC to add them more teachers especially in humanities like Business studies, Kiswahili and C.R.E which forces the the school to dig deeper into their pockets in employing BOM personnel.

With the introduction of CBC the school is ready to offer all the 3 pathways found in its diary because there is enough infrastructure only lacking an E- learning library. The population is deemed to grow bigger because there are well laid strategies for improvement.

Khabakaya is a unique school because they do admit special students gel well with others and compete favourably in academics.

Main challenge is lack of support from parents who have neglected parental obligations beginning from not paying fees and leaving students to the school in terms of discipline.

” I encourage candidates to work hard so that they know without education,no future is guaranteed and for the community to grow and develop, only education will elevate it,” put the principal.

The principal challenged the ministry of education for their deliberate delays in releasing capitation and by good luck they release, it’s just a drop in the ocean. All these leads to poor performance and a lot of straining.

The Mumias East sub-county KESSHA secretary,a teacher of Kiswahili and History said that, team work and co-operation among teachers is amazing which has pushed results to a different level. His subject of Kiswahili in 2024 KCSE became second best performed. He concluded by saying that, the school is blessed to have more science teachers unlike in Humanities.
