Counties Have Failed—Raila Should Stop Misleading the Nation on Education Devolution
I want to categorically state that Raila Odinga is completely out of order in his recent remarks in devolving secondary education to county governments. This is not only unconstitutional but a shambolic proposal that must be rejected and dejected .
For the past 10 years, counties have failed miserably to deliver even the most basic responsibilities like constructing ECDE classrooms.
In most schools, our kindergartens are congested in shanty rooms. If county governments have failed to manage early childhood education, how can they be trusted with secondary schools’ operations?
Let me be clear—devolving secondary education to counties would be a total violation to the education sector in this country and its standards will be entangled.
Counties don’t meet the threshold of developing and supporting county polytechnics. They have failed to equip and run county hospitals.
What confidence do we have that they can run the entire education system? This shows how education is heading to the racks and sharks under counties which should not be compromised.
