St Gabriel’s Mirere secondary on the upward trajectory trend in performance

St Gabriel’s Mirere secondary is a Catholic sponsored public entity and one of the best performing schools in Matungu sub-county and its united for the common purpose of success and achievement. Its improved tremendously in the 2024 KCSE by posting stellar results which promoted 29 students the highest number ever to join university under government sponsorship.

The school of choice is geared towards an improved mean score for this year National examination with a set target of 5.5. It attracts a good number of students across the cadre and the county level mixed day and boarding has 513 learners taught by 20 teachers.

A star-studded learning institution has habitable environment for improved results that has a rich history for having produced people of immense knowledge in the society like the current BoM chair a lawyer who is an alumnus. To this treadmill it is a blessing to have able stewardship of the chief principal Mildred Shileche who has acres of experience in guiding both academics and co-curricular activities  into success.

There are stringent practical measures for inculcating learning into good results. Early syllabus coverage, improved discipline among students, constant consultation,extra-learning hours and the thorough revision and testing conducted by the energetic and young teaching staff are some of the salient approach deemed for greater heights.

“Today’s function is to culminate all the hard work and regular meetings among teachers, students and parents should be conducted for the progress of our children,” reiterated chief principal.

She added that despite the improvements, the school has its fair share of challenges ranging from having a makeshift dormitory,no library, computer laboratory and the entire infrastructure is wanting.

The BoM chair Mr. Okara Geoffrey a lawyer congratulated the good performance by awarding the top 5 students with laptops and gave all the 29 students each a thousand bob as fare.

He motivated teachers by catering for their retreat in Bungoma and deposited 100 thousand shillings to school account for helping the needy students with tuition and donated computers to the school in readiness for CBE.

TSC sub-county director Mr. Matoke Samwel promised to help the school in the shortage of teachers and urged parents to mould their children discipline.

Sub-county director of education madam Linda Serete appreciated efforts of the BoM chair and the principal for convening the AGM which had taken ages without happening.

She reminded parents that the government is busy supplying text books and also to improve infrastructure by enrolling a sic project to start in July this year for construction of laboratories in schools.

Chief guest kakamega county Deputy Governor Ayub Savula called on the national government to not burden parents by slashing away examination fee which prompted the parliamentary education committee to cut 6 billion from the little capitation a move which is wrong.

He opposed the finance bill which will strain more low earners and instead urged MPs to scrutinize it and make a friendly budget for the citizens.
