The Catholic justice and peace department – Catholic Diocese of Kakamega (CJPD-CDKK) spearhead this year theme of ending plastic pollution a dedication to social advocacy and a keen interest in environmental preservation that coincide with the world environment week 2025.

The annual Diocesan Environment week carried a message to promote sustainability and responsibility of a clean environment. This information is not only meant for Christians alone but across all cultures, people of sound minds who ought to conserve the environment.

In fulfillment of the mission .Bishop Joseph Obanyi Sagwe said that everyone should safeguard interests of our environment and stop damaging nature through deforestation and must reconcile with the environment so that we are not punished in the end by the same environment.
” Reconcile with the environment because its God’s Will that each one of us must remain conscious of our environment,” explained the Bishop.

The Bishop added that humans and environment are inseparable prompting only human beings to interpret and internalize how the nature should be maintained. He reiterated that nature should be conserved so that the next generation should learn something and safeguard the safety of the environment.
His Lordship emphasized to stop plastic pollution which is the main contributor of environmental degradation a situation causing ozone layer depletion hence the hot sunshine causing skin cancer and other diseases. He discouraged the Western countries to stop damping environmental health hazard materials in Africa which is the main causes of the avalanche cancer diseases common nowadays.

“Africa is the least contributor to environmental pollution and Rwanda is the best example to be emulated for environmental awareness and conservation,” implode his Lordship.
The function held at st. Ursula’s Chamakanga Parish the sponsor church of Chamakanga girls which is one of the cleanest schools in the country that has a robust academic programs like frequent testing of students both internal and external which involve joint exams with other schools. Exams are done fortnightly and marking conducted and marks released immediately among those schools.
Senior principal Gladys Ombere shared to Educationhotspot that they have a formidable support from the BoM led by the chair Hillary Keverenge who supports students wholeheartedly.
Hard work, determined, self-driven teachers always go beyond their normal time in ensuring that students get the best in both academics and co-curricular activities.

The school has strict and disciplined programs that help them to excel in items like athletics which sponsored one student up to regionals. Leg ball, volleyball and Racquet games are just the few mentioned activities that are on the rise and are heading to greater heights. Music and Drama can’t go unnoticed.
