St Joseph’s Shibinga “W” secondary school conducted a thanksgiving mass in commemorating the good results of 2024 KCSE of which they had a mean score of 5.7796 from 4.08 of the 2023 performance and had an upward trajectory trend with a positive deviation of +1.6996.
From a candidature of 245 who sat for the national exams,65 managed to get direct entry to university as the number proves to be the highest ever to be recorded in the school’s history.
A 5 streams mixed day and boarding secondary school from Mumias East constituency is the most improved in the sub-county according to recently concluded rankings. The school has a student population of 832, taught by 15 TSC teachers and 15 under BOM alignment.
Teachers and students are on a mission to eradicate grade Es and Ds in terms of shortening the tail which started some time back,and it is paying off.

Fr. Josephat Evojio the Bumini parish priest congratulated the school and put them in prayers for their efforts in attaining an improved mean score despite the understaffing challenges among others.
He promised to offer spiritual nourishment and said that he will be always available for any consultations pertaining students’ progress and added that, he is happy with the students’ discipline which is the driving force for better performance.
Principal Roselida Muyeshi who has been at the school for over 10 years and is always present in her office is seen as a mother figure to many, who handles issues amicably and humanly.
A disciplinarian, strict and firm administrator does not condone indispline among students which has helped students to move by running always. She shared to education hotspot that, the school gets goodwill from the community and the Mumias East member of parliament Hon. Peter Salasya who ensures that no learning is interrupted through adequate and timely distribution of bursaries to all the students despite their affiliations and backgrounds.

The kakamega county vice-secretary KESSHA, thanked all the stakeholders who have stood with the school in realizing its goals. She encouraged parents to meet their obligations in parental guidance which has sometimes neglected students at their own peril, especially the boy child.
The principal added that teachers are working beyond normal hours to ensure that syllabus is cleared by May in a gesture to give room for adequate and quality time for revision as they eye KCSE exams.
Morning lessons begin at 6:30,while evening classes start at 4:30-6:00 PM week days. On Saturdays they report at 7 in the morning and leave at 6 in the evening and on Sundays they report at 1 PM after church service to which they carry out practicals in sciences.
They invite parents to school every time exams are released to come and witness their children abilities and to offer guidance on the performance which has helped many learners to pull up their socks.
Current candidates are 250 working hard to meet and even surpass target of 7.5 through motivations. Best performers are awarded money and learning materials.
There is the principal’s trophy won in any class that scores 6.0 mean in the internal testing. ” We have principal’s lunch for a class that emerges the best in the mean score and we take them out for lunch and panel beating together with teachers and BOM chair which has eradicated Es,” revealed Mrs Muyeshi.
” Schools were not created to partner with ignorance,but to eradicate it. And we have embarked on admitting students with a good entry behaviour,” explained the principal.
The discipline of students is good and moral values are taught and copied from teachers.
Despite the school’s improved index deviation, they have a mammoth of challenges ranging from inadequate number of TSC teachers, infrastructure of laboratories, administration block,gate to the need of a perimeter wall for maximum protection of students and teachers.
