The current 281 candidates are working hard to surpass their set target of 6.5 in this year’s final exams.

The East Africa -Kenya Church of God found at Kima is the main sponsor of the school and is headed by Mr. Bernard Odera as the principal. The day and boarding premier institution has 553 students who board and 334 day scholars.

Mr Odera shared that in last year’s exams, the best two candidates scored A-, and that he is working closely with everyone toward a common purpose of helping students excel academically.

“Our school is situated in a strategic location, bordering Vihiga and Kakamega counties. Coupled with our unique approach to academic programs that emphasize on integrity and responsible revision conducted after the timely completion of syllabus, we draw students from the local feeder and across the country,” he stated proudly.

He noted that for more than a decade, the school has established a name for itself for its culture of self-discipline and academic improvement. He further added that students are encouraged to maintain the bar and improve in all areas of learning because it is a STEM school whose interest is to incorporate the CBC formation with ease.

The principal revealed that the school and neighbouring institutions do joint exams called KLMSEN—Khwisero Girls, Lunza Boys, Musanda Secondary, Shiatsala Secondary, Eshibinga Secondary and Namasoli Secondary. They also do contests and academic symposia, which has gradually improved performance in all the schools.

On challenges, Mr Odera noted that the school has limited playing grounds and inadequate lands for expansion.

“The tuition section was a cause of concern for us. Fortunately, we got reprieve now that grade 9 students will remain in the primary school section,” reiterated the principal.

He noted that the school is situated in an area that doesn’t practice cash crop farming, hence fee payment is a big problem only for the intervention of area MP Hon. Christopher Aseka who issues out bursaries and remain to be the beacon of hope for many schools in the constituency.

Another challenge is the lack of a school bus which makes it hard for students to go for both academic and co-curricular trips.

“We’re requesting all stakeholders to come on board and alleviate the situation,” he said, adding that the school only has 25 TSC teachers and 7 employed on BoM terms hence the need for TSC to post more teachers to the school since the available ones are low as opposed to the CBE requirements.

Mr Odera implored that the school is a champion in co-curricular activities and that the debating club as well as the music and drama teams go to the nationals. In Soccer, they play up to the county level while athletics reaches the regionals.
